Introduction
CustomerGauge supports compliance with email open-tracking requirements, such as those in France and Italy, by allowing open tracking to be disabled for Custom Email Domains. When organizations send emails to recipients in countries where consent or additional controls may be required for tracking email opens, they can request that email open tracking is turned off for their custom email sending domain. To apply this control, customers must move sending away from the shared CustomerGauge sending domain and use a Custom Email Domain, if they have not already done so.
How to disable Email Open Tracking
To disable email open tracking for applicable recipients:
- Identify whether you send emails to recipients in countries where image tracking is restricted, such as France or Italy.
- Set up and use a Custom Email Domain instead of the shared CustomerGauge sending domain or instead of your already-existing Custom Email Domain, if you don't want to disable email open tracking for the entire sending domain.
- Contact CustomerGauge Support or Account Services Manager and request that email open tracking is disabled for your specified/desired Custom Email Domain(s).
- CustomerGauge will apply the setting to the custom domain(s).
- Review your own consent, notice, and record-keeping requirements to ensure your email program remains compliant for your specific recipients and use case.
Customers remain responsible for determining whether email open tracking is permitted for their specific recipients and use case(s), including any required consent, notice, and record-keeping obligations.
Good to know
- If an organization only has one custom domain configured in CustomerGauge, then disabling the email open tracking on that domain will lead to the tracking being disabled for ALL email recipients who receive emails from that domain sent via CustomerGauge, regardless of whether the recipient email address is from a country that has email open tracking requirements or not.
- If organizations would like to avoid the above from happening and only disable the tracking for the relevant recipients, the recommended approach would be to configure a second custom domain in CustomerGauge, and only disable the tracking on that domain. Then, you would need to configure your Campaigns in Campaign Suite accordingly, potentially creating a dedicated Campaign for the necessary countries in order to only apply the tracking-disabled email domain for that Campaign specifically.
